French Onion Steak

Ingredients

1 C Beef broth
1/2 C Reduced sodium soy sauce
8 Strip steaks (12 ozs each)
Salt and pepper as needed

1/2 C Olive oil
2 C Onions, sliced
1 lb Gruyere cheese, thinly sliced
1/2 C Fresh chives, chopped

Directions

In a small saucepan mix beef broth and soy sauce, heat and keep warm.



Coat each steak with 1 tablespoon of oil and season with salt and pepper to taste.



Grill steaks to desired doneness, turning once.



While steaks are grilling, carmelize onions as below.



Top each steak with 1/4 cup onions and cover with 2 ozs of the cheese. Broil until golden and melted. Place steak on serving plates and ladle 3 tablespoons of teh beef broth mixture over steak. Garnish each with 1 tablespoon chives and serve.

Additional Information

CARMELIZED ONIONS:



2 C Sliced onions

2 ozs Butter

2 Garlic cloves, minced

Pinch black pepper

Salt to taste

1/2 t Splenda granular

1/4 C Reduced sodium soy sauce



Melt butter in saute pan, add onions, garlic, black pepper, salt, and splenda. Cook over medium heat stirring often until onions are browned and soft. Mix in soy sauce. Keep hot.
